G&I Partner David Spoto recovered $200,00 for a young woman involved in a motor vehicle accident in Ontario County. The woman was a passenger in an automobile struck by another vehicle in an intersection. Numerous individuals were injured in the accident, some of whom were transported to area hospitals via Mercy Flight. Fortunately, all recovered from their injuries. Spoto, working with the attorneys for the other victims, secured a structured settlement which will provide a steady stream of monthly income for his client, together with substantial lump sum payments at certain milestones in his client's lifetime. "A structured settlement involves the purchase of an interest bearing annuity against which periodic payments are made," Spoto explains, "and the interest earned over time on the principal balance of the annuity is not taxable to the client as income."
